Yeshiva Sha’arei Zion third-grade girls stepped into the role of engineers as they designed and built their very own pinball machines using shoeboxes. Through creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration, students investigated the concept of motion while bringing Newton’s First Law of Motion to life.
As they tested ramps, obstacles, and pathways, students observed firsthand how objects remain in motion or at rest unless acted upon by an external force. The project transformed scientific theory into an engaging, interactive experience, allowing students to learn through play, discovery, and innovation while developing both critical thinking and teamwork skills.
Creating Mood Through Meaningful Reading At YSZ
Yeshiva Sha’arei Zion fifth-grade students are diving deeper into reading by analyzing how setting, an author’s word choice, and character development work together to create mood. Through close reading and guided discussion, students explore how descriptive language, character actions, and surrounding details shape the emotions and atmosphere a story conveys.
By examining how authors intentionally craft mood, students are strengthening both their reading comprehension and analytical skills, gaining a deeper appreciation for how language brings stories to life.
