Pennsylvania Getaway
As the summer excitement comes to a close, Ohr Natan’s Youth Minyan and Summer Kollel had one last hoorah with an incredible Shabbaton in Pennsylvania. This past Thursday evening, August 18, following an enriching day of learning in at their kollel, the men assembled for a memorable adventure filled with the best of ruchniyot and yes, gashmiyut too. The group rented a magnificent house with a stunning backyard lake.
Their first evening included all that one would expect from a serene getaway. A heartwarming bonfire, enthralling games of pool, and delicious eats courtesy of Sushi Kingdom on Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills topped off the list. Erev Shabbat began with uplifting prayers, and a thrilling boating experience that included swimming on a gigantic lake! The day also included sporting activities, like volleyball.
For an Orthodox Jewish youth, the real excitement of a vacation with peers comes when Shabbat sets in, and the devices are safely tucked away, and the youngsters are left to get properly acquainted with one another. The talented chaperones encouraged unity amongst the boys, encouraged each to repeat something interesting about themselves to their new friends.
The highlight of Motza’ei Shabbat was a gratifying kumsitz filled with warming tunes, captivating stories said around a luminous bonfire, and of course scrumptious smores.
“This amazing Shabbaton was the perfect way to culminate an uplifting summer of Torah learning and friendship at the Ohr Natan Summer Kollel,” related Rabbi Natan Kaziev, program coordinator.
Swimming And Basketball Summer Enjoyment
Recently, the bachurim of Ohr Natan Youth Minyan and Summer Kollel took a well-deserved pause for summer thrills. The budding young scholars enjoyed an outing to the Five Towns where they partook in swimming fun at a spectacular outdoor pool, enjoyed tasty pizza from Bogo, and topped off the trip with ice cream sundaes from Berrylicious!
Summer Kollel Program Smashing Success
Since its inception, Ohr Natan has prided itself on Torah classes appropriate for one’s learning level. This summer, the Torah atmosphere was absolutely inspiring with chavruta partners and classes that delved deep into the essence of being a God-fearing Jew. The summer schedule embraced the various rabbonim of the growing Bukharian community of Queens. Some of the guest lecturers (presented in alphabetical order) were Rabbi Nerya Aminov of Cong. Ner Mordechai, Rabbi Yaniv Meirov of Chazaq, Rabbi Ben Mordechai of Yeshiva Sha’arei Tzion, HaRav Menashe Tzadkah of Bet Medrash TOV, and Rabbi Daniel Cohen of Shaar HaEmet. The organizers thank the rabbis, sponsors, and of course the energetic participants for making this year’ Summer Kollel a remarkable experience.
