On Monday, April 18, members of Orot–the girls’ division of Ohr Natan–had a blast at their Chol HaMoed outing. First enjoying an Escape Room adventure in West Hempstead, LI, the girls had fun trying to solve the mystery and escape the room in under an hour (success!). Afterwards, they enjoyed pizza (Kosher for Pesach, of course!) and frozen yogurt at Berrylicious in the Five Towns. This expedition was one of many fun trips the group has taken which included a summer swim in a rented pool, bowling, and ice cream, amongst other fun activities.

The Orot program was established by Ohr Natan last summer and is geared specifically towards Queens girls ages thirteen and up. The organizers, Miriam Kaziev and Adina Siyonov, felt a void existed for programs geared towards the teen and tweens age group. Together, under the auspices of Ohr Natan, they organized weekly classes for girls (ages thirteen and above) every Wednesday evening. The program features an array of speakers discussing topics of interest to this specific age group such as dating, emunah, etc. Some recent speakers have included Rabbi Gabbay, Rabbi Y. Aminov, Rabbi Shimonov, Rabbi Vaknin, Rabbi Meirov, Rabbi and Mrs. Maksumov. The Orot program also hosted women from the community who spoke about their profession on “career nights” in order to help girls choose their future direction in life. Accompanying every class is a delectable dessert table, snacks, sushi, and pizza all beautifully displayed. The girls enjoy schmoozing on topics of shared interest, and ask questions without the feeling of being judged or scrutinized.

The program is completely free of charge. If you are a girl aged thirteen and older, you are welcome to join the next class on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Ohr Natan: 98-81 Queens Blvd., on the 3rd floor. For further info and sponsorship opportunities, call 929-327-8072.
