Recently, the Ezra Academy legal team, dubbed “The Legal Eagles” went on their yearly trip to Duke University in Durham North Carolina, to participate in the National Moot Court competition.  Accompanied by the principal Sima Fish, eight of our students who have been studying constitutional law, prepared both sides of a case to be argued before a panel of both law students and active attorneys. The case was one of appellate advocacy. While our students prepare and work hard for this competition, it is rewarding for many more reasons. It not only shows them the value of hard work but also the beauty of being a Jew. Ezra is the only Yeshiva which participates in this competition. Initially thought to be an issue due to the fact that the main contest take place on Shabbos with the finals being on Sunday. However, special arrangements are made and Ezra plays their rounds on Friday. Shabbos itself is an amazing experience. Having a mini Shabbaton with Rabbi and Mrs. Nossen Fellig, Chabad on Duke Undergrad. It was an inspiring and enlightening Shabbos. It was also a great opportunity for the students to see what Jewish life on a college campus is like. All in all it was a win for the Legal Eagles.
