Yields: About 15 samsa
Ingredients
For the Samsa:
1 pound beef or chicken, diced
- 1 tablespoon pepper (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 large onions, diced
- 1 package Gefen Puff Pastry Squares
- 1 tablespoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds or black sesame seeds, for topping
For the Dipping Sauce:
Pepper, to taste
1/4 bunch cilantro (about 1/2 cup chopped)
3 to 4 frozen garlic cubes
Salt, to taste
1 cup Tuscanini Crushed Tomatoes or 1 (6-ounce) can tomato sauce
Directions
Prepare the Samsa:
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a bowl, mix the onions with salt, pepper, cumin, and coriander. Add the diced beef or chicken and mix until well combined.
Working with one puff pastry square at a time, place about two tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center of the square.
Fold two opposite corners of the square together to form a triangle. Pinch the edges tightly to seal.
Place the samsa on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake for 30 minutes or until the pastries are golden and crispy.
Prepare the Dipping Sauce:
In a bowl, combine all the ingredients for the dipping sauce: crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce, chopped cilantro, garlic cubes, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Serve the dipping sauce alongside the warm samsa.
Enjoy these flavorful Bukharian Samsa as a satisfying appetizer or snack!
