Yes, they are lazy. Now, on to my actual topic for this week: the secret to creating a successful workout routine. Wait! I was joking! Sort of. Let me give you the rundown:

Laziness is "the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy." I don’t think anyone is truly unwilling to work. If you can run to the cholent bowl at the kiddush, you can certainly run around the block. So why do so many people struggle to lose weight?

It’s not as easy as it sounds. First, we need to acknowledge that being overweight is almost always a result of choices. The fact that you wish you were leaner doesn’t change the fact that you made poor decisions to get to your current state. You need to start making better choices. If you’re overweight, that means at some point you were lazy. For months or even years, you consistently chose not to put in the effort. But that doesn’t mean it has to stay this way.

Don’t be one of those people who’s always saying they’re "going on a diet." The ones who are always starting "tomorrow," trying new fads for a few days, and never making consistent efforts to lose weight. Saying you're dieting doesn’t mean much except that you’re unhappy with your current state.

We can make every excuse in the book, but it won’t change reality. If you want to lose weight, you need to put in a huge amount of work, especially at the start. Yes, it gets easier over time, but the first few months require a special kind of consistency and dedication. It’s not about mustering up that dedication—it's about staying committed to the work.

Yes, it’s demotivating when progress is slow. Yes, it’s difficult to keep going when it feels like nothing is working. It stinks to hear rude and thoughtless comments, and it burns your insides to fake a smile and brush off their contradictory (and downright false) advice. But you need to push through it and focus on what truly matters.

Instead of making excuses, make improvements. Start small. Do actual research on what works, rather than listening to your friend’s warnings about "fattening foods." The truth is, if you diet correctly, you will lose weight.

If you’ve been trying to lose weight and it’s not working, do the research. Make sure you’re dieting the right way. Track every calorie you consume—week to week, day to day, even meal to meal. Every tiny improvement is a step toward that big goal. If motivation is your problem, hire a coach or, better yet, envision how much satisfaction you’ll feel when you hit your target. Think long and hard and ask yourself: Is the diet not working, or am I not working?

So, are fat people actually lazy? Well, they may have been lazy in the past, but if they’re actively putting in the energy to improve, they’re not lazy. They’re champions. Keep up the work and hatzlachah!
