As home to the largest Jewish population anywhere outside of Israel, New York City works hard to protect and make its Jewish citizens feel welcome. To that end, Mayor Eric Adams welcomed Ofir Akunis, the newly installed Consul General of Israel in NY where Adams redoubled efforts to fight antisemitism at home and abroad.

At a meeting held earlier this week at City Hall, they addressed the atrocities of October 7th in Israel and the desire to end all forms of hate and anti-American rhetoric in New York City. The officials also focused on the importance of educating the public about these deplorable events and the necessity of a strong response to dismantle Hamas, prevent future violence, and create peace in the region. Akinis was a member of the Knesset for Likud and was the Minister of Science and Technology before accepting this sought-after post. Deputy Consul General, Tsach Saar was in attendance at the meeting with the mayor.
