The streets of Hollis Hills were transformed into a vibrant celebration of unity and Jewish pride as Congregation Derech Etz HaChaim welcomed a new Sefer Torah. The daytime procession drew families, rabbanim, and community members from across Queens for a powerful public display of simchah.

Dedicated by Yakov and Yafa Elizerov, the event brought together multiple generations. Under bright skies and accompanied by lively music, participants danced through the neighborhood, escorting the ornate silver Torah through the streets. Children and adults joined in song, following the chupah as it moved block by block through Hollis Hills.

Queens Shmira provided safety and traffic coordination on behalf of the NYPD’s 111th Precinct, ensuring a smooth route as the crowd made its way toward Jamaica Estates. Residents emerged from their homes to witness the procession, which was marked by the rhythmic beat of drums and the spirited clapping of the marchers.

The celebration continued with a festive seudah at Kol Israel Hall in Jamaica Estates. The hall was filled with singing and dancing as guests gathered to honor the new scroll. Adding to the family milestone, the afternoon also featured an upsherin, highlighting the continuity of Jewish tradition across generations.

Rabbanim and community leaders joined friends and extended family for the meal, where a large screen displayed seating and honored guests. Throughout the program, the gleaming silver Torah case remained the centerpiece of the festivities, surrounded by continuous dancing.

For Congregation Derech Etz HaChaim, the Hachnasas Sefer Torah was more than a ceremony; it was a testament to the growth and vitality of the Hollis Hills and greater Queens community. The event served as a proud declaration of faith and a reminder that the joy of Torah remains the heart of Jewish life.
