Chazaq’s JWave Teen Division continues to provide Jewish public school students with a place to grow, connect, and explore their heritage through both meaningful learning and engaging activities.
Recently, a group of boys reached out to Rabbi Walkin on one of their days off with a special request — they wanted to learn how to daven. Rabbi Walkin gladly welcomed them to the Chazaq Youth Lounge, where he spent time teaching them the fundamentals of t’filah, an experience he described as a true honor.
Beyond learning, JWave also gives teens opportunities to build friendships and positive memories. On another day off, Rabbi Walkin took the boys for an exciting paintball outing, combining recreation with the warm mentorship that has become a hallmark of the program.
As Purim approached, the teens gathered again at the Chazaq Youth Lounge, this time rolling dough and preparing their own hamantashen. The hands-on activity helped build excitement for the holiday while giving the boys a deeper connection to its traditions.
The Purim spirit extended beyond the lounge as well. The day before the holiday, Rabbi Walkin visited Francis Lewis High School and Townsend Harris High School, spreading Purim cheer among Jewish students. On Purim itself, he was honored to visit Forest Hills High School, bringing the joy of the holiday directly to the students there.
Through moments of learning, celebration, and friendship, Chazaq’s JWave Division continues to create meaningful Jewish experiences for teens throughout Queens’ public schools.
