On Tuesday, October 17, the Alliance of Bukharian Americans (ABA) was honored by The Daniel Patrick Moynihan Democratic Club and Councilman Rory I. Lancman for its community involvement and service. Before presenting the ABA with a beautiful plaque, Councilman Lancman highlighted the fact that “Queens County is the most diverse county in the United States and includes a vibrant Bukharian community.” Additionally, Councilman Lancman noted that organizations like the ABA provide representation to immigrant communities including the Bukharian community. After Councilman Lancman honored the ABA before a packed crowd, ABA member Ilya Mordukhaev thanked The Daniel Patrick Moynihan Democratic Club and Councilman Lancman on behalf of the ABA for the great honor. Mr. Mordukhaev went on to highlight that the ABA is the first group of its kind established in the Bukharian community and outlined the goals of the ABA. Mr. Mordukhaev stated, “The Club is one of the means by which the Bukharian community engages their elected officials and allows for a great partnership between the community and their elected officials. It gives community members and leaders the opportunity to learn of how the democratic process works in Queens and throughout New York City.” The ABA will continue to provide the highest level of representation for the Bukharian community at all levels of government.
