Recently, Project Lead held an exciting Women’s Empowerment Luncheon for young professionals from the Bukharian Jewish community at Prestige Glatt Kosher Restaurant in Rego Park. Over 140 women participated in the event, which was a reunion for all of the attendees who had been involved during their high school years in weekend retreats, trips to Hershey Park, leadership training activities, and much more.

Speakers included Rabbi Yitzchok Young and Mrs Miriam Friedman of Machon Academy, where many of the young women had attended. In addition, the Speaker of the City Council Adrienne Adams, Councilwoman Lynn Schulman, and Councilwoman Linda Lee, who provided funding for the event, also spoke about the bright future of our young people. The featured speaker was Professor Cynthia Darrison, an acknowledged leader in women’s empowerment.

Co-sponsors of the event included UJA Federation, as part of their Civic Engagement Initiative. David Aronov represented UJA Federation at the event. Caring Professionals was also an event co-sponsor and was represented by Rebbetzin Faigie Horowitz. Rabbi Avrohom Hecht, Executive Director of Project Lead, noted, “It is extremely impressive to see how accomplished our young professionals are. They truly represent the future of the Jewish community.”

Special acknowledgement goes to Naama Asherova for coordinating the event. Over the past 28 years, Project Lead has worked with nearly 6,000 Jewish youth throughout the Central Queens area.
