Local Precincts Host ‘National Night Out Against Crime’ Events

Rabbi Daniel Pollack and Avraham Pinkhasov Honored

Tuesday, August 2, was a beautiful day in Queens and most apropos for local Precinct Community Councils to host their National Night Out Against Crime events. True public safety requires a positive police-community relationship, and that was the name of the game across Queens. The family-focused activities are a great way to strengthen the relationship between communities and their local officers in the New York Police Department.

The 107th Precinct in Kew Gardens Hills held their entertainment at Electchester Shopping Center, where Assembly Member Daniel Rosenthal was honored to receive the Community Council’s Community Service Award presented by Commanding Officer Deputy Inspector Kevin Chan.

The 112th Precinct, serving Forest Hills, had an amazing time spreading smiles and cheer as the community and officers got together in unison. Commanding Officer Deputy Inspector Joseph E. Cappelmann bestowed Avraham Pinkhasov, coordinator at Queens Borough Safety Patrol-Shmira, with the Civilian Commendation Award. Pinkhasov’s dedication to keeping the community safe is admirable.

But it was the 102nd Precinct’s festivities that most broadly welcomed its Orthodox Jewish residents. Rabbi Daniel Pollack, Jewish liaison to Congress Member Grace Meng, arranged for kosher food to be brought on as an option for attendees. To this end, Shlomo Zalman Schwartz, restaurateur at Naomi’s Kosher Pizza and Falafel, was on hand with tons of fresh pies of his delicious pizza. In attendance at that program was Patrick J. Lynch, President of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York; Rabbi Aloni Russek of YCQ; Aaron Cyperstein, Esq., President of Chaverim of Queens; Rabbi Avrohom Hecht of Project Lead; Chief Joseph Campbell XO of Queens South; Chief Ruben Beltran; and Council Member Lynn Schulman.

As a surprise, Commanding Officer Captain Jeremy R. Kivlin presented Rabbi Pollack with an accommodation for his steadfast and often discreet work on behalf of the community. Rabbi Hecht commented on the honor, “Rabbi Daniel Pollack is a dedicated community leader with selfless commitment to his community.”

A night of fun and enjoyment that included various vendors, food, and games for the kids was had by all.
