The Bukharian community is known for its unique customs and way of life. However, the sources and reasoning for certain traditions are not always known to the general public, sometimes not even to rabbis of the community. With this is mind, CHAZAQ Director Rabbi Ilan Meirov has been dedicating his time researching the customs and traditions of the Bukharian community with the intention of showing how they have strong roots in halacha.
Rabbi Meirov’s newest book, entitled “MeBikurei HaIlan” (the Baruch Chai and Sarah Memorial Edition) on the laws of Pesach was published just in time for the upcoming Holiday. It received warm endorsements by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rav Yitzchak Yosef, and by the Chief Rabbi of the Bukharian community in USA and Canada, Rav Yitzchak Yisraeli.
Rabbi Meirov celebrated the publishing of the book in Israel together with several members of CHAZAQ’s Beth Midrash in Queens New York and with members of CHAZAQ’s Kollel “Ohr Aviel” in Jerusalem. Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchak Yosef was the special guest at the Seudat Mitzvah.
Although his schedule is extremely busy, the Chief Rabbi dedicated over one hour of his precious time with the guests from New York and delivered an in depth class on the laws of Pesach. He praised CHAZAQ for their life changing outreach work and encouraged Rabbi Meirov to continue publishing works in Halacha, which he has been closely guiding him with for 14 years.
The new book was handed out to dozens of prominent Rabbis across Israel including Chacham Shalom Cohen and Chacham Moshe Tzadkah, the Roshei Yeshivah of Porat Yosef, who both expressed great joy in receiving the book.
A highlight of the trip was a large gathering of Bukharian Yeshiva students and Kollel members that was organized by the United Chief Bukharian Rabbinate of Bukharian Jewry, headed by Rabbi Hillel Chaimov. This memorable event, held in the city of Elad attracted approximately 800 Bukharian people throughout the four hour program, and all those in attendance were given free copies of the newly published book.
In only several days of circulation, the book has been received with great excitement by Rabbanim and students alike, as its in depth yet simple to read format allows one to learn all the relevant laws pertaining to Pesach in a fashion that had never been available to the Bukharian community to this very day.
