The well-respected Ohr Natan synagogue under the leadership of Rabbi Nachum Kaziev hosted two widely successful Selichot events that attracted capacity crowds. Held on two consecutive Motzei Shabbat evenings, the events featured renown chazanim who enhanced the prayers. On September 4th, ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the shul, in conjunction with their in-house Youth Minyan, welcomed Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi for an in-depth lecture. At the conclusion of this event one young man stepped forward to have the rav perform a haircutting ceremony on his well beyond shoulder length hair. The young man, Moshe, in a show of urge to continue a more religious path reminded the rabbi not to cut his peyot sideburns. The following weekend, at the pre-Yom Kippur Selichot event, Rabbi Mizrachi returned once again to a packed shul. Each program featured beautiful and inspiring shiurim, delicious hot food, hatarat nedarim readings and of course the Selichot services. Following the second event, more than ten men took to the Ohr Natan stage to continue their religious journey by taking upon themselves the mitzvah of wearing tzitzit. The ceremony was performed in public as each man joyfully wore his new holy garment and got a special blessing from Rabbi Mizrachi. The September 11th event also included remarks by Rabbi Yitzchak Aminov and cantorial renditions by admired chazanim.

The following afternoon, Ohr Natan hosted the venerable rav and Rosh Kollel of the Kalev Chassidut in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, The Kaliver Rav. For six hours the rav gave Brachot and offered advice to dozens of followers, families, and residents of the Rego Park area and beyond. The Rav continued this time honored tradition begun by his father, The Kaliver Rebbe, Rav Moshe Taub shlit”a, who has long visited the Ohr Natan community ahead of the chagim. The Rav continues to pass on these blessings on behalf of his righteous father who has always strived to bring the hearts of estranged Jews closer to Hashem. Please continue to have in mind Rav Moshe ben Raizel in your Tefillot for a refuah shleima.
