The Alliance of Bukharian Americans Health Committee continued it commendable relief efforts for healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic with a special dinner distribution on the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Long Island Jewish-Forest Hills Hospital as part of their recent initiative entitled Food for Our Heroes. This follows a pizza distribution from the previous Friday where 800 meals were provided for the daytime staff at LIJ-FHH, a 312-bed community teaching hospital with 18,000 inpatient discharges annually.
320 falafel pitas were circulated from Tov-Li Shawarma on 108th Street in Forest Hills to the evening workforce of LIJ-FHH by longtime employee Boris Semkhayev, ABA Health Committee’s cofounder, COVID-19 Relief Subcommittee Chair.
Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, designated as a Level II Perinatal Center and New York State Stroke Center, generally provides inpatient medical and surgical care, intensive care, and obstetrics and gynecology services. LIJ-FHH maintains both a well-regarded medical residency education program and a podiatry residency education program.
Naomi’s Get-Well Cards are handwritten notecards from community members meant to provide emotional support for hospitalized COVID-19 patients who are unable to see family due to visitation regulations. All children love coloring, so the committee instituted this project as a wonderful way for the youngsters stuck at home to put their drawings to good use.
