On April 4, 2020 many non-profit organizations and individual community leaders that serve the Bukharian Jewish community came together to form a partnership in their efforts to provide relief to the community in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This title of this partnership the All Bukharian Community Network (ABCN). Their flagship initiative, run by not-for-profit organization Congregation Emet Ve Emuna, is a campaign to gather donations of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and funding to purchase PPE equipment for distribution to healthcare workers in the community who are inadequately supplied by their employers. This campaign is called the Shield Our Heroes Campaign. Other partners such as the Alliance of Bukharian Americans (ABA), Bukharian Jewish Union (BJU), and Chazaq are also running efforts to provide kosher meals for hospital healthcare workers, aid in unforeseen burial costs, and Jewish educational lectures via live online video sessions, respectively. These any more initiatives are being run in collaboration to help alleviate the sudden changes in community members’ lives due to the pandemic. The main goal of this partnership is to unify all the information of these initiatives through one central hub. They have set up a website where all the initiatives are outlined, and information on how to inquire about them is provided, as well. During a time that everyone is isolated at home, we must unite in whatever ways we can to tackle the issues that have arisen in our community due to the virus’s spread” said the ABA Health Committee’s Cofounder, Covid-19 Relief Subcommittee Chair, and liaison of the ABA to the ABCN, Boris Semkhayev. From donating money or PPE, to making get-well cards for hospitalized Covid-19 patients, they have all initiatives listed on their website www.sites.google.com/view/abcn. Donations for PPE can be placed at https://www.charidy.com/shieldourheroes.
