On erev Chanukah, Kollel Milhamta Shel Torah in Kew Gardens Hills organized an enlightening yarchei kallah in conjunction with its Sunday morning Ta’am HaTorah learning program. Each Sunday from 9:15 am until 11:15 am community members transform their day off work into a spiritual and meaningful morning with in-depth yeshiva style chavruta learning aided by a maareh mekomot guide. For review and clarity, Rabbi Emanuel Baal-Lev follows these sessions with a dynamic shiur.

Through these classes, various sugyot b’iyun were completed giving attendees a true, inner satisfaction. “It gives me a spiritual boost for the entire week,” confided one regular participant.

This past week’s special Chanukah program began with a beautiful breakfast, followed by an in-depth gemara shiur, given by the Rosh Chabura, Rav Avi Roth, on the topic of hilchot shomrim – the laws of supervising with practical applications. The kol torah was heard throughout and the atmosphere was electrifying with over 60 men of all ages and backgrounds immersed in the sugya. The kollel avreichim had prepared the sugya prior and learned alongside the balei batim. Later, the Rosh Kollel of the Mir Yeshiva, Rav Eliezer Ginsburg shlit”a, gave over words of chizuk to strengthen the community’s limud ha’torah.

Rosh Kollel Harav Ariel Baal-Lev shlit”a articulated, “Ironically, the Yevanim wanted to uproot Yiddishkeit and prevent the Jewish nation from learning Torah. Kollel Milhamta Shel Torah made a tremendous kiddush hashem this Sunday and showed Hashem that His children took the occasion of erev Chanukah to set the tone for the rest of the festival, and the entire year – that there should not be a weakness in torah learning.”

The event was sponsored by Mr. Moshe Isakov and family in memory of his grandfather, Pinkhas ben Chana Isakov.
