On Wednesday, December 25, 2019, while many were off from work, the Nektalov and Ilyayev families joined together with Ohr Natan to host one of the most inspiring Chanukah events in Queens. The Nektalov family commemorated the 7 month memorial of their dear father, Rachamim Roma ben Tamar Nektalov and the Ilyayev family for the Hatzlacha of their family and Leilui Nishmat Nina Nekadam bat Kumri.
Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi was invited to speak on the significance and greatness of Chanukah as well as the problems Klal Yisrael faces today. Guests were welcome in the great hall with a buffet leading up to opening remarks by Rabbi Nahum Kaziev, the Rabbi of Ohr Natan where he spoke about how Rabbi Mizrachi’s first English Lecture was given in Ohr Natan and how it was a pleasure to have him back. Next, Rabbi Mizrachi was given the honor to light the menorah for the congregation which was a sight to see. Rabbi Mizrachi started off his lecture emphasizing the crucial events that unfolded thousands of years ago with the Greeks, how anti-Semitic crimes are making a comeback in today’s world and then connected it with life after death. Rabbi Mizrachi also spoke about the similarities and differences of Purim and Chanukah as well. Towards the end of the night, Ohr Natan was honored to have a Zechut to welcome Rabbi Yaakov Goldstein from Monsey, who is a descendant of the Baal Shem Tov, to say a few words on the Parsha and give individual blessings and advice.
Special thanks goes out to Efraim Ilyayev and Emanuel Nektalov for organizing this event.
