On Motzei Shabbat, Parsha Vayishlach, Yeshivat Ohr Haiim held our Annual Mother–Daughter Melave Malka. This yearly event celebrates our girls and the strong maternal role models in their lives. The program was attended by well over 100 people including many grandmothers who shared in the nachat.
The festivities kicked off with Divrei Berakha from our Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Mordechai Kashani, who gave a beautiful Dvar Torah underscoring the unique and significant role of Jewish women and girls. Rabbi Kashani’s words were inspiring and set just the right tone for the
evening. This year’s theme for Melave Malka was “Hakarat Hatov”. At Ohr Haiim students learn about saying thank you, showing appreciation to those who help and guide us, and appreciating all of Hashem’s blessings.
The students formed a choir led by their Morot (teachers) and performed three musical numbers. The 8th graders put the finishing touches on the presentation with a magnificent dance they choreographed themselves.
As usual, a highlight of the event was the Chinese Auction. Girls were practically jumping out of their seats with all the excitement, and the competition for some fantastic prizes. From class Hot Cocoa and Pizza parties to Free passes on Homework and extra credit on tests – the atmosphere was amazing. The top winners went home with an Amazon Gift Certificate from all the Morot, fancy cakes and cookies for Shabbat from Morah Susan and Rabbi Hochbaum, and a huge Candy basket from Rabbi and Rabbanit Kashani.
All in all, it was a fantastic evening for everyone and we expect to feel the positive effects here in school for months to come!
