Rav Yosef: “The Bukharian Community has a real zechut (merit)
to have Rav Yisraeli as the Chief Rabbi”

Rav Ovadia Yosef was a renowned Torah Sage that merited being the undisputed leader of Sefardic Jewry around the world. From Israel to Europe and to the United States, his word was accepted as final to hundreds of thousands of Jews.

“With the passing of Chacham Ovadia nearly 6 years ago, the world lost a great giant in Torah” said Chazaq Director Rabbi Ilan Meirov. “But Baruch HaShem he left us with Children and students that continue in his path”.

“Among them, are his son Chacham Yitzchak Yosef who is the Chief Rabbi in Israel (plus author of the renowned Yalkut Yosef) and his other son Chacham David who is with us tonight”.

Rabbi Meirov shared that Chacham David Yosef is not only a great orator who touches people’s heart, he also is a head of a large Kollel (Yechave Da’at) which trains hundreds of future Rabbis and is also the author of numerous magnificent books in Jewish law entitled Halacha Berurah.

Rabbi Meirov shared that exactly three years ago when Chazaq started their “no child left behind” initiative in order to raise awareness on the importance of Yeshiva education, Chacham David Yosef was asked to head the initiative. Indeed, since then he has met with the Chazaq team dozens of times in America and in Israel including speaking at numerous events to assure maximum success in the project.  Baruch HaShem, three years later, Chazaq has helped transfer over 700 kids to Yeshiva, a truly remarkable accomplishment.

The Mara D’atra Rabbi Igal Haimoff was then asked to share words with the large standing room audience, though he differed and asked the guest Rabbi from Israel to make a special announcement, notifying the crowd that Rabbi Meir Gavriel Elbaz, a graduate of Yechave Da’at in Jerusalem, would join Rabbi Haimoff as Rabbi in Cong. Ohel Sincha.

Rabbi Haimoff remarked how it was only a while ago when Harav Elbaz was growing up in the community and was now ready to contribute to its growth.

Harav Yitzchak Yisraeli, the Chief Rabbi of the Bukharian communities of America and Canada, spoke next. He began by praising Chacham David Yosef for his greatness in Torah and expressed his appreciation for all that he does for the Bukharian community. He then shared powerful insights about the days leading up to the destruction of the Temple and shared that ones home must be preserved and not “destroyed” by cell phones and other means of technology that take away from ones connection to their spouse and children.

The final speaker of the event was Harav David Yosef who began by extending his blessings to the Chief Rabbi of the Bukharian community.

“Rav Yitzchak Yisraeli is a great genius, a great Torah Scholar. When you see his books, you see he is working very hard, learning very deep. He is a Real Torah scholar and a real Dayyan (Rabbinical Judge)” said Rav Yosef.

He added that the Bukharian community has a “real zechut (merit) to have Rav Yisraeli as the Chief Rabbi”.

Harav Yosef then spoke about the tragedy of our times, rampant jealousy. He explained how the 2nd temple was destroyed because of jealousy which fueled enormous hatred amongst the Jewish nation. He elaborated on the priorities we need to hold dear, and shift from materialism to spiritual pursuits in the Torah and the community. Harav David Yosef also praised Chazaq’s amazing and successful initiative to pull Jewish children out of public school and pledged to never give up in the hope of seeing every Jewish child granted a proper Jewish education.

By the close of the event, it was clear to the crowd that the days leading up to Tisha B’av is a time to value the Torah and its teachings of caring for each other and not allowing petty things to diminish our relationship.
