On Monday and Tuesday, October 29-30, History chair Mrs. Audi Hecht, accompanied by seniors Abigail Lieber, Meira Saffra, and Eytana Schick, as well as juniors Eliana Abraham, Oria Reyhanian, and Rachel Rumstein, headed to Washington, DC for the Schusterman AIPAC High School Summit, joining with high school students from across the United States. The students participated in various sessions that taught them about the goals of AIPAC, its history, and the policies they are promoting on behalf of the US-Israel relationship. In some sessions, they learned lobbying strategies and role-played various techniques on how to advocate for issues they are passionate about. The students were also able to participate in a lobbying session with Congresswoman Kathleen Rice’s staff (NY-4th District), addressing the issues of defense aid to Israel, the Iron Dome, and a Congressional bill addressing the use of civilians as human shields by Israel’s opponents. It was an impactful experience, and the students are eager to bring their knowledge back to their communities.
