For the past six years, I’ve been on the outside of politics, looking in. In that time, I’ve written and published over 500 columns in a wide variety of outlets covering everything from current events to cultural and social issues to deep political analysis. I’ve interviewed dozens of candidates and community leaders, attended dinners, town halls, and even the Trump inauguration. I’ve organized fundraisers, attended rallies, knocked on doors, stood at train stations and supermarkets, hosted meet-and-greets and ran town halls; all for candidates that I believed in and was happy to support. Now, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m taking the next step in this journey – running for the Nassau County Legislature.
This journey is all a part of a deep desire to do what I can to help my community. The community I hope to serve is under a grave threat that cannot be understated. There have been years – decades, in fact – of mismanagement and failure by Democrats at nearly every level of government in New York. The incompetence is so overwhelming that in Nassau County, with our incredible County Executive Bruce Blakeman and our Nassau County Legislature under the stewardship of our Presiding Officer Howard Koppel, we can barely hold off the tidal wave of radical Leftist ideology that is constantly threatening our doorstep.
County Executive Blakeman is the reason why we haven’t collapsed. Through his leadership, Nassau County is the best county in New York and the safest county in the nation. His support of and collaboration with our police officers has prevented the issues that have plagued the rest of the nation. The primary example of this occurred in December 2023 when pro-Hamas supporters were storming malls across America, harassing shoppers for having the audacity of not condemning Israel for defending itself after October 7. When Roosevelt Field Mall was targeted, nothing happened. That’s because while all other towns, counties, and cities immediately collapsed under the pressure of dealing with these clowns, Blakeman and Commissioner Pat Ryder stepped up and put a stop to it.
Let’s not discount the issues on college campuses. In New York City, under the auspices of Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul, Jews cannot walk around on the campuses of Columbia, NYU, CUNY, or others without threat of targeted harassment simply for being Jewish. They would not weigh in when university faculty and administration actively sided with Hamas over the victims of October 7. When Democrats cowered, Bruce Blakeman stood in defense of morality, calling out Hofstra’s president on her moral equivalence between Israel and terrorists. This proactive approach prevented the campuses from spiraling into chaos like so many others around the country did.
The safety and security of our county is, of course, of paramount importance, but it’s not enough to simply survive where you live. Thanks to Bruce Blakeman and the incredible leadership team, we are thriving. Having no taxes raised in three years while the country was going through skyrocketing inflation because of the ineptitude of Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats should have been a pipe dream. Blakeman made it a reality.
Years ago, I realized that I need to do more to help my community. Some people join shul committees, others work for non-profits and other charities. I decided that my motivation and drive was for politics. As the saying goes, “All politics is local,” and after studying and analyzing every level of government for nearly a decade, I’ve come to realize that there is more truth to that statement than anyone really knows. Anyone can blame or praise Biden or Trump or whoever they like all day long – it’s not fixing the pothole on your block. They can make all the laws they want in Albany; they do not determine if the streets are safe and the streetlights are on. That’s all local.
So, I started working towards helping my community in that way. I stood with Legislators Bill Gaylor and John Giuffre when the traffic light went up on a street where pedestrians were killed. I joined Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin when a seedy crime-ridden motel was shut down. I watched as Legislator Mazi Pilip fought for and Bruce Blakeman signed the “Mask Transparency Act.” I’ve seen what has been done for our community by our great leaders, and I look forward to joining them – knowing I could never fill their shoes.
For the first time, and certainly not for the last, I’m asking for the support of the community in a way I have never done before. I’m asking for your advocacy, your time, your passion, and most importantly your vote. Together, we will win this seat and keep our town and county safe and secure.
G-d bless Nassau County, and G-d bless America.
