On Wednesday November 11, the United States of America celebrated Veterans Day. The pandemic tremendously altered the holiday with cancelled appreciation parades and annual get-togethers going virtual or being entirely abandoned. One community activist chose this special day as an opportune moment to give thanks and to show appreciation to local veterans in the neighborhoods of Forest Hills and Kew Gardens. Avi Cyperstein wears many hats in the community and recently he announced his candidacy for the City Council district 29 seat being vacated by the term limited Karen Koslowitz. Cyperstein joined veterans at the Forest Hills Care Center for nice conversation and a bite to eat. Cyperstein also delivered personalized thank you cards to the honored veterans for their service to America. These small tokens of appreciation were greatly treasured by seniors and staff of the centers.
