The presence of this amazing woman in the crowded community of Beth Gavriel most likely does not have any time limits: it’s eternal. Since those noble seeds which she planted in the fertile soil of our community, it will continue to bring forth magnificent seedlings in the name of the tireless ennoblement of Jewish life on earth. Today, the dreams of our true matriarch Yaffa are promoted by her children and grandchildren. Tomorrow her great-grandchildren will join this great legacy. And so, year after year, decade after decade, century after century...
What is the strength of the inexhaustible power of the character of our matriarch Yaffa, her spirit, her life principles, and her philosophy? How did she, faced with insurmountable obstacles, being at the beginning of her life's journey, not only not bewildered, not only did not become discouraged, but, on the contrary, having gathered all her power of character into one fist and joined the battle with all these circumstances? And she won only because her main value was always her family, community, their well-being, and not her personal desires. Faced one on one, face to face with a fate (beloved husband Gavriel was in the Soviet dungeons on a vile slander), with young children in her arms, she rushed into battle. Raised children, looked after a sick mother-in-law, at the appointed hour, in the winter cold went to distant lands to the camp to her husband, support him, give hope, and inspire him.
Premature loss of her husband, three immigrations - she endured everything and was still able to continue. Almost 30 years ago, together with their close friend Miriam Elishaeva (kind memory of this holy woman), they turned to their sons with a request to open a synagogue that bears their fathers’ name. Today, Beth Gavriel has gained worldwide fame thanks to the good deeds that are accomplished within its walls.
Our grandmother Yaffa lived a long, complex, happy life - almost a hundred years, having learned many troubles, but also joyful victories and achievements. Her secret is in one thing: she always strived, in any circumstances, to bring good to people, to help, to support, and to comfort. Her life is an example for each of us. She rests in the Holy Land, pacified by her worthy accomplishments, by the fact that her affairs live in the actions of those numerous heirs, whom they, together with her husband Gavriel, left on earth.
The bright memory of our dear unforgettable mother and grandmother Yaffa is always in our hearts.
