It was inspiring to see the community come together and offer their heartfelt prayers for the recovery of Shabsie Ben Pesha Rochel, who was involved in a terrible car accident. Shabsie is well known in the Queens community as someone who is involved in many Jewish organizations and programs of Jewish outreach and service. A gifted writer, he has also written countless articles and essays for publications like the Queens Jewish Link and the Bukharian Jewish Link. Recently, a community member had spotted anti-semitic graffiti on a traffic signal control box in Rego Park. The community member called Shabsie, who immediately reached out to the local police and to the appropriate politicians representing the area. Shabsie had commented: “This needed immediate attention, as survivors live in the area and this would be terrible for them to see.” We are happy to report that Shabsie is in the process of rehabilitating and is recovering from his injuries. The BJL and the community at large will continue having Shabsie in our prayers. May Hashem grant Shabsie a speedy and full recovery. Amen!
