The Jewish Youth Basketball League recently finished a thrilling 10-week sporting program. The league was established by the Alliance of Bukharian Americans, the Chazaq Organization and E-Squared, a Great Neck based group, to unite all sects of our Jewish youth and create leaders in athletics on and off the court.

Emmanuel Shemanov revealed, “The Jewish Youth Basketball League has taught my son David the proper skills for the game, how to be a team player and most of all the tactics to boost his self-esteem.”

Boys joined from nearly all our local schools, yeshivot and public schools to create an energetic bunch. “It is gratifying to see youngsters of all Jewish backgrounds unite on the court and maintain exquisite middot tovot even under pressure to triumph,” observed Rabbi Yaniv Meirov CEO of the CHAZAQ Organization.

The league operated Sunday mornings in a special six-week clinical program for kindergarten through second grade then in the afternoons on Sunday for third and fourth graders. Their program began with clinics and culminated in four competing teams. The kids wore their authentic jerseys proudly and picked up new techniques to improve their game.

On Monday evenings fifth and sixth graders battled for a chance in the championships and on Wednesdays seventh and eighth graders took on the fierce challenge. Parents and siblings were encouraged to attend the games and cheer on their loved ones. The energy at each game was always on par. “It was extremely satisfying to see the teammates reassuring one another and instilling positive vibes. Most notable were the moments spent with the coaching staff where vital tips for success in the game were exposed helping the boys achieve success,” articulated Shabsie Saphirstein, the league’s on-staff administrator.

“It is our goal to bring the community the most effective and outstanding league. Options are currently being weighed for an upcoming season and details will be forthcoming,” announced Head Coach Jake Ellis.

David Mordukhaev, the Rego Park liaison for the ABA explained, “The children combine their yearn to win with team building exercises to enhance their strategy on the court.” All emerged as victors and are eager to launch into a new season.

“My son and his friends loved the basketball league! It was extremely well organized, and the coaches and referees went above and beyond!” said Leora Itzhakov an ecstatic parent eager for the next season.
