GOAL SETTING

9 Reasons Why You Should Be Setting Goals – and Achieving Them!

By Bentzy Rosenberg, Success Coach

Last article we spoke about how many goals a person should have, and we spoke about what defines success. Let’s take a step back for a minute and let’s talk about why. Why should a person have goals?

And in his classic ‘Lifelines’, Avi Schulman lists nine reasons, and we’ll go through them and give a little elaboration on each one:

1. Purpose: Now, we know as observant Jews that we have a purpose. We’ve been taught purpose. However, for a person to actually write down and give themselves their own feeling of purpose, and to have weekly check-ins to make sure that they feel that sense of purpose and that they keep on staying the course with that sense of purpose—that is where goals and the strength and the power of goal setting and living with goals come in.

2. Motivation: A person that has goals has an inherent built-in motivation. From the step that they’ve set aside time and they’ve created in their own mind, not something that’s been dictated to them and therefore it’s external, and it’s something that they have set within themselves that they want to get done. Therefore, they’ll have the motivation.

3. Discipline: A person can get very distracted over the course of time. If somebody has goals that they’re having check-ins with, they have a path that they’re sticking to, the chances of them getting distracted are much less.

4. Overcoming Frustration: Things can frustrate a person as they’re trying to reach what they’re trying to get to. But if it’s a set goal with a set plan with everything that’s been put in place, then they’ll overcome that frustration and they’ll keep going.

5. Overcoming Discouragement: There will be times where there are people in your life, sometimes they’re the most well-meaning people, who will be discouraging, trying to save you from yourself. And again, by having a goal, there’s the most chances for a person to successfully stay the course, even though there may be discouragement around them.

6. Encouragement: Once a person has reached their goals, they have the encouragement to start again.

7. Horizons: Your horizons have then opened. You’ve reached somewhere where now you can see much greater and you can have even bigger goals and loftier goals. And therefore, you can start that whole process over again.

8. Accomplishment: Accomplishing one goal, gives you the enthusiasm for further inspiration for being able to go further.

9. Self-Mastery: A person who has reached a goal, who has done a goal, feels that they can overcome their own flaws and master themselves, and go higher and creating greater goals.

And so, with all that understood, we’re going to keep on exploring further as we go into what are the best ways to set our goals.

PRODUCTIVITY

The Importance of Investing in Mindset

By Jacob Rupp, Founder, Rupp Group

An important thing for people to consider is the impact or the value that they’re placing on their mental activity. What I’ve found is that for people that really succeed, it requires them to have not just the ability to execute, but the ability to think creatively, to think abundantly, to model those that have already done what they want.

So, number one is creating clarity around what they want. Number two is finding someone who has achieved what they want and then figured out what it is that they’ve done that sets them apart. So, a classic example would be the great John Rockefeller; one of the wealthiest men in the world, or Andrew Carnegie. These men spent a tremendous amount of time on their mindset. This is long before mindset was popular, long before Tony Robbins and self-development, etc. If you read their biography, it’s like a modern-day self-development book.

That said, where most people really set themselves apart is in the mental game. So, for those people that are looking for the step that’s going to take them out of the rat race, first, figure out what do you want. Second, figure out who has that. And third of all, pay attention to the things that these people have done to move themselves out of it.

GROWTH MINDSET

Distractions

By Avi Friedman, Coach, Managed Minds

In the fast-paced world we live in, distractions have become an ever-present challenge that affect us both personally and professionally. We find ourselves caught in a constant struggle to maintain focus and productivity amidst a variety of competing priorities. While we all jump to blame external factors such as our phones and computers, it is crucial to recognize that these are not the main causes of distractions. Rather, the first step in addressing distractions lies within us.

While seeking temporary relief from discomfort may seem harmless, the long-term consequences of internal distractions can be profound. The very tasks we tend to avoid are often the ones that align with our goals and aspirations.

Uprooting Internal Distractions: The First Step

To tackle distractions effectively, we must begin by cultivating self-awareness. Through introspection and mindful observation, business leaders often discover that their procrastination and phone usage are not external distractions, but rather stem from internal ones.

Working with *Sarah, we unearthed two core reasons for my clients’ distractions—upon further exploration. The first reason was uncertainty about how to proceed with the next task on her to-do list.

The second reason for Sarah’s distractions was the perceived boredom associated with certain tasks on her agenda. As an entrepreneur, some aspects of her business required repetitive actions such as data entry and reviewing proposals, which felt like a drag for her.

With newfound awareness, we were able to address the root of the challenge and create strategies to tackle mundane tasks, as well as learn proper techniques to break down daunting projects.

The transformation in Sarah’s work routine was remarkable. She reclaimed valuable time that was previously lost to distractions and used it to focus on activities that propelled her business forward. By acknowledging and addressing the root causes of her distractions, Sarah not only overcame procrastination but also developed a newfound sense of empowerment and purpose in her entrepreneurial journey.

Conclusion: By following the professional guidance in this article, business leaders can master goal setting, cultivate a growth mindset, increase their productivity, and see their businesses grow and thrive bs”d!
