Once the joyous holiday of Purim comes to an end, many families begin to face some sort of pressure in preparing for Pesach.  From reviewing the relevant Halachot to turning over their house and to all the grocery shopping, these few weeks can be very challenging to some.

In order to help ease some of these burdens, CHAZAQ has been providing food for the body and soul, in an even greater fashion than they have throughout the year.

Firstly, Chazaq continued its daily online classes on a wide array of topics via the TorahAnytime platform attracting tens of thousands of viewers. A special highlight was a Q and A sessions in conjunction with the OU.

In addition, Chazaq gradually reopened in-person classes. Rabbi Eli Mansour, Rabbi Zecharia Wallerstein and Rabbi Ilan Meirov gave special Pre Pesach lectures to the community.

Furthermore, Rav Elya Brudny, Rosh Yeshiva of the Mir in Brooklyn, made a special visit to Chazaq’s Beth Midrash where he delivered a powerful Pre-Pesach message. He then met with members of Chazaq’s public school to yeshiva Division together with the renowned Posek, HaRav Noach Isaac Oelbaum. His visit concluded by making a special tour in Yeshiva Sharei Tzion where he serves on the Vaad HaChinuch together with Rav Shmuel Alishaev (head of Mosdos Sharei Tzion), Rav Yitzchak Yisraeli (Chief Rabbi of the Bukharian community) and several other prominent Rabbanim. He also met with the heads of Sharei Tzion’s new girls’ high school that is set to open in the upcoming school year.

As for Chazaq public schools’ programs, the J-Wave Teens division and Shaping Lives Children’s Division spent several weeks teaching boys and girls about what the miracle of leaving Egypt means for us today; giving the youth an appreciation for what happened to our ancestors. They had mock seders along with Q and A’s on the laws of Pesach, bringing about clarity to all the relevant laws.

As for feeding the body, Chazaq kicked up their Lev Aharon food distribution by holding a special Pesach Food handout in partnership with Met Council. The first day of distributions included the participation of Queens Borough president Donovan Richards, Mayoral candidate Andrew Yang, Assemblyman Daniel Rosenthal, and Council member James Gennaro among many other public officials and community leaders.

When the day came to an end, the Lev Aharon pantry provided everything from Matzah and grape juice to vegetables and poultry, to over 300 families.

Chazaq also held a free Clothing Distribution together with the “Chickens for Shabbos” organization, along with a children’s’ shoes sale at heavily discounted prices to provide families with new clothing to wear in honor of the holiday.

As you can see, this is a small glimpse of the work that Chazaq does day in and out, helping strengthen our community in every way possible. A special thanks goes to all the dedicated Rabbanim, staff, volunteers and supporters for allowing all these great programs and services to take place throughout the year.
