The month of November opened up with a beautiful wedding in the Syrian community of Brooklyn, in which Sefardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rav Yitzchak Yosef was invited to officiate the wedding.
His appearance for the wedding also allowed him to spend a full week visiting dozens of Shuls and Yeshiva institutions throughout the New York area.
While some people unfortunately looked to turn this visit into manipulating the community for their personal agendas, nevertheless Rav Yitzchak Yosef’s visit was solely to inspire communities around the city and Baruch Hashem he accomplished his goal.
Indeed he made several visits to the Syrian, Bukharian, Persian, among other communities offering words of inspiration to all.
In Queens, he visited the Bukharian Center in Forest Hills for prayer services. He also visited the Beth Gavriel Bukharian Center to inspire teenage boys from the Tiferet Tzion high school. He visited JIQ and Yeshiva Sharei Tzion elementary schools where he was greeted warmly by hundreds of students. In addition, the Chief Rabbi made a special visit to Yeshiva Be’er Hagolah in Starrett City where hundreds of Sefardic students mostly of Bukharian descent receive a beautiful secular and Torah education.
It should be noted Rav Yitzchak Yosef has been to Queens quite a few times in the past, having lectured for CHAZAQ on numerous occasions along with speaking at Cong. Anshei Shalom and the former Sharei Tova (Now Ner Mordechai). But this visit was unique because he was able to spend several hours visiting the local Yeshivas thereby leaving a lasting impression for local school children.
More important details about Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef’s visit to Queens will be shared in the next issue of the BJL.
