On Sunday June 2nd, the Alliance of Bukharian Americans Health Committee hosted its second annual Aspiring Healthcare Professionals Seminar at the Beth Gavriel Bukharian Congregation in Forest Hills, NY. 6 graduate students and 7 healthcare professionals from the Bukharian community volunteered to become panelists and educate the rising youth on what it takes and what it means to be a healthcare specialist. The many healthcare fields represented included Nursing, Physician Assistant, Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Optometry. Over 60 Bukharian Jewish students attended the event, many of them in high school or early college, all of them looking to learn more about the various healthcare fields.

The event ran from 3pm to 6pm and included lunch. Attendees listened as the panelists addressed topics ranging from a typical day in a professional setting to the balancing act of a medical career with a Bukharian Jewish lifestyle.

An hour for networking followed the back-to-back hour-long panel sessions of graduate students and professionals. Students were given the opportunity to directly exchange information and ask them more personalized questions. In addition, a raffle was held for a prize of one year membership on the Pre-Health App. All other guests received an offer from our sponsors for 20% off membership for the pre-health app. The app is designed to aid students as they prepare for their respective graduate programs.

This event was made possible with the ABA Health Committee’s hard work and great effort, as well as generous sponsorship by Kweller Prep Tutoring and Educational Services and NAPHAS.

In accordance with the vision of the Alliance of Bukharian Americans (ABA), the Health Committee is committed to empowering community members with knowledge and experience regarding all health related matters affecting different segments of the population. The Health Committee operates under the auspices of the ABA and continues to fulfill its mission.
