Walking On Eggshells

Thank you for publishing an article about Laura Doyle’s approach to shalom bayit, an approach I’m very familiar with, as the book has been very popular in the Jewish community. My concern is that while her approach might work in the short-term, I have my doubts as to whether it is really effective in the long-term. Your spouse should be your best friend, someone you can open up to and talk about anything in a genuine way. This idea that a wife should only say certain things to her husband, even if they are not entirely true, to achieve some desired results, seems like the opposite of what a true relationship should look like, let alone a marriage. A wife should not feel like she is walking on eggshells in terms of what she should say or do to her husband. I really think Doyle’s approach is a long-term recipe for disaster.
